Race rules & indemnity – Single Participant

The event takes place on Saturday 20 April with the aim of ascending Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain as many times as you can between the start at sunrise (07h13) and the end at sunset (18h17) on that day.

Each participant will receive a race shirt (to be worn on Challenge Day), a timing chip, free passage on all downward cable car trips for the day and access to the athlete zone for refreshments.

Participants are required to scan their digital Cable Car pass on their downward cable car journey.

An alternate date of Saturday 27 April 2024 will be used in the event of Cableway closure on Challenge Day.

On Challenge Day, the first ascent will begin at the starter arch at the lower cable station.  From there, participants will make their way along Tafelberg Road to the base of Platteklip Gorge and ascend via the demarcated footpath.  The lap will end at the Mobii timing station at the upper cable station.

From lap 2 onward, participants begin the ascent behind the refreshment tent up to the contour path, left towards Platteklip Gorge along the contour path.  Reaching Platteklip Gorge, participants continue the ascent and continue as per the first lap.

Only ascents tagged on the Mobii timing device will be counted towards your total (no tag / no lap)

On Challenge Day the Mobii timing station will be active from sunrise to sunset

By registering for this event I:

  • acknowledge that I have read and agree to the rules as set out above;
  • undertake to raise a minimum of R3,000 from sponsors;
  • understand that to be eligible to participate my pledge minimum of R3,000 needs to be reached 4 days prior to event registration i.e. by the end of Sunday 14 April 2024;
  • acknowledge that I may be liable for any shortfall in the minimum once funds are collected;
  • agree to be added to the event WhatsApp group;
  • agree that any images of me at the event, or shared by me of the event, can be used by event Organisers on social media and event communication;
  • will not litter and will respect the mountain;
  • acknowledge that I will respect the organisers and other participants of the event and will not act in any way that brings disrepute to the event;
  • acknowledge that the event takes place on SanParks property, a natural heritage site, and is subject to the rules of the permit obtained by the organisers;
  • acknowledge that the event is by its very nature dangerous, risky and physically strenuous in nature;
  • declare that I am medically fit and healthy to participate in the event;
  • agree to take part in the event entirely at my own risk;
  • understand that there will be no medical assistance available on the route; and
    agree that my dependents and I do not have, and will not institute, any claims whatsoever against, and do hereby indemnify and hold harmless from all liability, the Organisers (JDI) and any person associated with the event in respect of any loss whatsoever which I or any third party may suffer arising from any cause at all, regardless of whether or not the same shall have been caused directly or indirectly by negligence, gross or otherwise, of any person;
  • acknowledge that this indemnity applies equally to the Organisers, SanParks and all other participants, sponsors, marshals, assistants helpers, agents, contractors, landowners, local authorities or employees of such persons.

 

Race rules & indemnity – Corporate Challenge

The event takes place on Saturday 20 April with the aim of ascending Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain as many times as you can between the start at sunrise (07h13) and the end at sunset (18h17) on that day.

Corporate team members’ laps will be added together to establish the team total.

Where teams end on equal laps, the winner will be determined by the team that raised the most funds.

Each participant will receive a race shirt (to be worn on Challenge Day), a timing chip, free passage on all downward cable car trips for the day and access to the athlete zone for refreshments.

By registering for this event I:

  • undertake to pay a team entry fee of R17 500;
  • understand that to be eligible to participate our team entry fee of R17 500 needs to be paid 4 days prior to event registration i.e. by the end of Sunday 14 April 2024;
  • acknowledge that I may be liable for any shortfall in the minimum once funds are collected;
  • agree to be added to the event WhatsApp group;
  • agree that any images of me at the event can be used by event Organisers on social media and event communication;
  • will not litter and will respect the mountain;
  • acknowledge that I will respect the organisers and other participants of the event and will not act in any way that brings disrepute to the event;

Race rules & indemnity – School Challenge

The event takes place on Saturday 20 April with the aim of ascending Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain as many times as you can between the start at sunrise (07h13) and the end at sunset (18h17) on that day.

School team members must be between the ages of 13 and 18.

School team members’ laps will be added together to establish the team total.

The winning team will be based on a combination between total team laps achieved and total funds raised. Each completed lap will be awarded 1 point and each R2,500 raised (based on the cumulative team total raised) will be awarded 1 point.  The team with the highest points will win.  If 2 teams end on the same number of points, the team with the most laps will win, unless the same number of laps were completed in which case the team who has raised the most funds will win.
